CoolSculpting vs. Liposuction: Which is Best?

If you’re looking to trim and tone certain areas of your body, it’s likely you’re doing all the right things.  You’re eating a healthy diet, getting plenty of exercise, and getting enough sleep so you can keep those cravings for sugar and other junk foods under control.
But for some reason, you just can’t seem to make that stubborn fat disappear, no matter how well you eat or the number of hours you log on the treadmill.

For these clients, there are two treatments that could help with targeting stubborn fat bulges in areas like the stomach, flanks, waistline, and arms: CoolSculpting and Liposuction.
Both have visible results and high patient satisfaction ratings.  Both are ideal for patients who may need a little boost to achieve their optimal body goals.  But how do you know which procedure is right for you?

Let’s take a look at the differences between each procedure, including what ideal candidates look like for these highly effective treatments:

  • CoolSculpting is a non-invasive body contouring procedure that uses freezing energy to target and reduce fat cells via the dermis. CoolSculpting is FDA-approved and yields significant results.  What’s more, CoolSculpting uses the body’s natural metabolic processes to safely reduce the fat cells, so there’s no downtime, swelling, or bruising associated with the procedure.

CoolSculpting is best for patients who are within 15 to 20 pounds of their ideal body weight and need extra help targeting stubborn body fat.

  • Liposuction is a surgical procedure that’s designed to break up large amounts of fat tissue in areas like the stomach and thighs.  A small incision is made to the treatment area, through which a tiny cannula is fed.  Your surgeon may choose to break the fat up with the cannula, or use laser energy to heat and liquefy fat cells.  Fat is removed from the body via drainage, which can last for a couple of weeks.

The best candidates for the Liposuction procedure have excellent skin laxity and are looking for more significant results.  They should also be able to adhere to necessary downtime and recovery.

No matter which option you select, you should commit to following a healthy diet and exercise regimen in order to maintain your results.  Both procedures visibly reduce fat cells, but they cannot prevent the regrowth of new fat.
